How to get him to use toilet
Tips On How To Get Boys To Stop Using A Potty Chair And Use The Big Toilet
There comes a point with potty training that your son will need to move from the potty chair to the regular big toilet. This is another step in the potty training process and many times children will be resistant to using the big toilet, since they have become very used to their potty chair.
Remember the potty chair is all theirs, it is their special seat and this is the first toilet they have used. So they may not want to have to switch to using the big toilet. However, there are ways to help them make the transition to the big toilet.
Potty Training Tips:
- Let them help pick out a new potty seat that can be placed on to the big toilet. Many times children have outgrown the potty chair due to height and size, but are still not big enough to fully sit on the big toilet. Getting a potty seat to place on the toilet will make your son feel comfortable sitting on the toilet and very secure, since many children have a fear of falling into the toilet at times. There are also potty seats that are padded or have handles and some have both. So you can choose a potty seat for your son that he will be comfortable on, as well as one that he likes in the color or characters that he wants so that he is still excited about using the potty.
- Make sure to have a step stool in the bathroom or by the toilet so that your son can get on and off the potty easily also. The easier it is for him to get on the potty, the more likely he will want to use the big toilet. With a potty seat in place and a step stool, he will be able to easily get on and off just like like he did before with his potty chair. This is especially true for children that are not quit tall enough to get on the toilet themselves, they will not want to use it if they can not get on it. The step stool is good to have to reach the sink as well.
- Let your son decorate the toilet and walls around the toilet with bathroom decals. These are removable and if he can decorate the toilet it will not seem so scary to him as well. There are large and small decals that can be added and they are available in character decals too that will help him feel more comfortable with using the potty.
- If you have been using toilet targets in his potty chair, continue using them in the big toilet too. If you have not used them, than this is a fun way for children to go potty and even make a game of it. The toilet targets can be placed in the bottom of the toilet and change images when your son pees or there are also targets that dissolve when your son pees on them. He'll see that going pee and poop in the big toilet is fun with the toilet targets in there.
